Adventure List


Most girls have a closet full of clothes and shoes with the tags still attached, waiting to be worn for that perfect occasion. This girl has a closet full of notebooks, journals, and post-it notes filled with nothing but blank pages and the intimidation that only a perfectionist can put on their perfectly clean, unused pages (and I have a closet full of clothes with the tags still attached). Additionally, this girl has a Bucket List the length of the Great Wall of China (which is on the list) that only continues to grow as she waits for the perfect day to begin checking them off of her list. So before I end up on an episode of TLC's Hoarding: Buried Alive, I decided it was time to put these little beauties to good use. 

Each notebook will be dedicated to a chapter of this journey, assigned a list of adventures to be completed within it's pages.
Each page will be dedicated to a day within the chapter for nothing but old-school documentation of each moment, thought, and note that I have along the way.

One of my favorite quotes is: "To change one's life: 1. Start immediately 2. Do it flamboyantly 3. No exception", so I've decided, will be the theme of this first chapter.

Let's break it down.


It doesn't matter if it's a Sunday at 10:50am or your birthday or the same day you woke up late and got chewed out by your boss. Just start. Start today. Start when you aren't prepared. Start when you have a million other things going on. Start when you're in a bad mood. Start when you're uninspired. Start when it would be much easier to stay standing still. Start when you get told “no” or that your idea is stupid. Start when you trip up the stairs, say something stupid, or just ate six pieces of pizza for dinner. Start when you feel fat, have a bad hair day, or your kid vomits in the back seat of your car. You will never be perfect and there will never be a perfect day. Just start. And start every morning, afternoon, and night of every day; just because the gun is fired and you are off of the starting line doesn't mean you won't have thousands of times along the way that you will want to stall out and quit. Start and start and start again. 


I believe in sharing your goals with others - anyone and everyone who asks. I believe in creating obnoxiously large goal-setting spreadsheets to hang on your wall so you can get the satisfaction of crossing items off of your list. I believe in vision boards to jostle up your motivation when it's lagging. I believe in connecting with others who are working towards similar goals. I believe in power poses and taking up lots of space. I believe in having a strong WHY behind your goals and having copies of that WHY everywhere you go so that you can refer to it when you want to give up. But I also believe in wearing hot pink lipstick and glittered Keds. I believe living life with an enthusiastic rhythm is the only way to live. I believe that we spend a lot of time playing it small and trying not to stand out when the world and that isn't getting us anywhere. I wasn't always this way, though. I literally talked to NO ONE for the first ten years of my life, so if I can get "weird", you can to. Be loud. Be proud. Be totally vulnerable about what you are working on and let people get excited with you!


You wouldn't skip out on a meeting with your boss, so don't skip out on meetings you are setting for yourself. Break down your goal and put that time on your calendar in the brightest, boldest, most obnoxious color that you can find. You will have to change if you want something to change. You can't keep going on about your normal routine and expect things to happen. You may have to wake up earlier. You may have to cut back on the amount of time you spend re-watching Real Housewives on Bravo. You may have to say "no" to the things (and the people) that are getting in the way of you living your best life.
